The question is, does this process hurt? Sometimes people recover quickly and with out a lot of discomfort when they have been wounded emotionally and spiritually. More times than not they go through pain and discomfort to get to the other side.
There are different levels of wounds that people encounter. Some are surface wounds and some are much deeper. Some wounds are rooted back years in their lives. We all know that a scratch heals with less pain and time than say a broken hip or neck. A scratch you might clean it up and slap a bandaid on it. With a broken hip or neck you have months and maybe years of recovery, pain meds, therapy and lots of pain.
I have had a back issue that I have suffered with for many many years. It's a deformity from birth and so it's deeply rooted in my life with pain. I went to my Dr this week and he gave me an insert in my left shoe to help balance me out and relieve the pain in my right hip. He said to me now this might cause you some pain and discomfort while we are helping correct the problem. I thought to myself surely not your making my hips even so it will be great. With in just a minimum amount of time wearing the insert my right hip and lower back were hurting. He only gave me a 1/4 inch lift. It looked so insignificant to me and sure not enough to cause that kind of pain. Now at this point I had a choice to make, deal with the temporary pain and discomfort or keep it while my right hip area begin to heal around the affected area. In my past with the fear of the pain I would have chosen the familiar pain and lived with it and avoided the new type of pain. But I have chosen the temporary pain to have a permenant relief!!
So now back to emotional and spiritual healing and pain! How many of you have suffered a deep hurt and everytime God tries to do a procedure in your life you choose to keep the familiar pain? God wants to bind up and heal your broken hearts. He wants to restore your emotional and spiritual life to the fullest.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, (Isaiah 61:1 NIV)
Today I want to ask you to do three things toward receiving your emotional and spiritual healing.
1. Aknowledge the hurt
2. Ask God to help you forgive the person or yourself
3. Tell someone you trust. You don't have to tell them the hurt unless you want to. You can just simply say I have started a journey to healing in an area that is painful and I would like you to cover me in prayer.
Is it gonna hurt? You bet you!! Is it worth it? YOU BET YOU IT IS!!
The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter. (Psalm 30:5 MSG)
I do want to tell you if at anytime the pain is more than you feel you can walk thorough with out outside help there is no shame in asking for help. God put Leaders, Pastors, Counselors, Family and Friends in our lives so we don't walk alone on our journeys.
